Additional Instructions for installing Wolo Air Horn Kits

In case of a manufacturing defect, contact WOLO, Deer Park, NY, to obtain a return authorization number. WOLO warranties these horns for 90 days, NOT Proud Shopper. Keep the dated invoice from Proud Shopper for at least 90 days.

Mount trumpets close to the compressor. There isn’t much air tubing to spare. The trumpets must be mounted with the open end pointed down so that water will drain out. If you prefer not to drill the required holes into your body, consider making a bolt-on bracket. The compressor must mount vertically or the oil will pool, get cold in Winter, and "stick" the rotary valve.

Compressors slow down unless a few drops of machine oil are added every few months. Two different designs are made. Italian compressors have a black plastic middle with the oil hole clearly marked. Chinese compressors have a cast aluminum housing which must be oiled into the open slot behind the mounting boss (on the back side) by first removing the compressor.

If installing kit as a PRIMARY HORN, simply unplug the existing wires from the stock horn and plug those wire ends straight onto the compressor. For newer vehicles, some sort of adapter may be needed. Older vehicles use the same 1/4" spade clips that come on the Wolo compressor. It is very simple. There are only two electrical connections. If the tune plays backward, swap the wires.

If installing kit as a SECONDARY HORN (operated by a switch other than the normal horn switch) additional electrical supplies will be required which are not included in the Wolo kit. See the Additional Parts List sheet for items that you may want to obtain before starting the task.

Although after-market horn switches (like the AutoZone one described on the parts list) can handle the full amp draw of the compressor. So, the power relay included with the kit is not needed. However, it is not a great idea to penetrate the firewall with a heavy power wire that could short and start a fire. If you choose to do this anyway, make sure to fuse the circuit BEFORE the horn button and use a grommet in the firewall so that the wire can't be cut by the hole in the sheet metal firewall.

For the best looking installation, mount a momentary panel-mount switch in a drilled hole through the dashboard. These small panel switches can NOT handle the power draw! So, the included power relay MUST be used with these small switches. Some Wolo instructions do not explain the relay wiring schematic.

The "coil" of the power relay is "between" terminals 85 and 86. Connect the wire coming from your (add-on) panel switch to one of these terminals. (The numbers for the terminals are on the bottom of the relay.) Connect the other terminal (of the two) to a good ground. Now, the relay will switch over when the horn switch is pressed. Mount the relay somewhere OUTSIDE the passenger compartment..

The “contacts” for the relay are terminals 87 and 30. Connect a (fused) 10 or 12 gauge power wire to one of these terminals and the other to the wire going to the “+” terminal on the compressor. The last connection is a wire from the “-“ terminal on the compressor to a good ground. You can get by with a single fuse if the same fused power wire feeds both the relay contacts and the horn switch.

Be CAREFUL to prevent any potential short circuits which could start an electrical fire. Consult a professional installer of automotive electrical devices if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

These horns are really loud. Please don't pester the neighbors and give these horns a bad reputation.
